RWENZORI HIKING

The Rwenzori mountains national park are a mystical challenge yet offering stunning views of glacier and the snowcapped peaks, V-shaped valleys, fast flowing rivers with magnificent waterfalls, blue lakes and the exceptional flora and fauna.

The park hosts Africa’s third highest peak at 5109m. over 217 significant bird species have been recorded as well as numerous mammal species such as the forest Elephants, Red duikers, Eastern chimpanzee, L’Hoest monkey to mention but a few.

The park has a very rich bio-diversity this makes every level of the hike quite unique and interesting.

DAY 1: KAMPALA TO KILEMBE

You will meet and greet with your driver who will brief you about your upcoming adventure after which you will embark on the journey to the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. The drive gives you an opportunity to enjoy the scenic view of the mountain ranges, tea plantations and homesteads. You will have enroute lunch in Fort portal town and then continue to the lodge for an overnight.

DAY 2: KILEMBE TRAIL

After breakfast, you will head out for the big hike following the Kilembe trail to Kalalama camp site (3156 m). This day involves a steady climb through the Montane forest and Bamboo to the camp site in the heather zone along the way you will be able to spot various bird species, mammals and primates. At the campsite, you will have dinner and an overnight.

DAY 3: KALALAMA TO MUTINDA

Very early in the morning after breakfast, you will walk to the second point ‘Mutinda’ about (3,810 m) ascending (654 m) this hike is full of scenic beauty as you pass by River Kamusoni.

DAY 4: MUTINDA TO LAKE KOPELLO OVERLOOK.

This trail traverses open Moorland as you proceed to Lake Kopello view point at (4185 m). The hike from Mutinda to Lake Kopello is quite daring for mountaineers yet worth every effort.

DAY 5: HIKING LAKE KOPELLO TO MT.BAKER BASE CAMP

From Lake Kopello (4,185 m) to Mt.Baker base camp (4,160 m) is a journey full of up and down ward movements. The trails have very impressive views of the Montane vegetation, rivers and waterfalls.

DAY 6: HIKE FROM MT.BAKER BASE CAMP TO MT.BAKER SUMMIT

You will be required to start up very early in the morning to climb up to Mountain Baker before clouds obscure the views (4,842 m)

DAY 7: DESCEND FROM KOPELLO TO KILEMBE (2,350 M)

This route is amazingly beautiful as you pass through various vegetation zones. Once you reach the Kilembe trail starting point this will be the end of the hike.

You will driver back to Kampala having a lunch stopover at a selected hotel/ restaurant.  Thereafter you will be dropped at the airport/ hotel.
